Our Solar System

Green Bean's 12th musical offering is out of this world - literally. Our Solar System launches students into outer space for a look at the objects orbiting the sun. While singing this sing one realizes that even though the size of our solar system is beyond comprehension, it would appear to be a speck of dust on a map of the universe. In "Just Another Star," the sun must check its ego: So you think you're so cool, just because you're so hot etc. While vital for life on Earth, the sun is really nothing more than a star. Every object that orbits another object is called a satellite. Satellites can be natural, or human made. Regardless of how they came into being, their movement is controlled by the gravity of a larger object called a 'primary.' Man-made or naturally, circling my primary, you might see me - I'm a satellite etc. If you should ever decide to take a trip to Earth's moon, don't expect to have a good time. The song "On The Moon" laments that there is nothing living on the moon. You can't breathe, you can't hear, because there is no atmosphere. At least the sky is always clear. The final song bids farewell to Pluto. In 2006, Pluto lost its status as planet 9. The IAU, or International Astronomers Union, determined that Pluto lacked the requirements to be considered a planet. It was re-classified as a dwarf planet. It really can't be that bad, now can it? When your status is changed to 'dwarf planet'.
